In 1995 Manchester Jack to Phono
set up his first night with Dom (Blood
and Fire), Luke Unabomber (electric
chair) and Ant (headspin, kangarilla)
it was called deeper and ran for about a year with a New Years Eve
party as a finale!
A move to Aarhus, Denmark in 1997 followed and a new chapter of
parties for the picturesque Danish coastal city with visits from
the mighty Mr. Scruff and Manchesters
Fat City records with the Frontrunners
and DJ Schack helping with the events,
during this period contact with Copenhagen was made.
A chance meeting with DJ Malachy in
1999 led to the modern day Influx
and a host of different club nights including Homecookin.
Labels such as Soul Jazz, Blood and Fire,
Grand Central, Ninja Tune, Tru Thoughts and Catskills
were now being represented in venues such as Rust, Vega and Stengade
30. Influxs base at bloomsday has been running the now legendary
Bloomsday sessions for nearly five years!
Jack to Phono plays future funk, beats,
jazz breaks, dub and drum and bass, a mash up of different styles
and has played at Sunday Best, Nuphonic bar (London), Roskilde Festival,
Band on the Wall, Manchester, Rust, Vega, Dublin and Sweden and
has worked with Voices of Wonder, Vega and freelanced for many labels
and clubs throughout Europe.
In 2000 Jacques Laverne Records was
formed. It linked artists from the UK and Denmark on vinyl with
releases from the likes of Blue Foundation,
Mr. Scruff and Treva Whateva.
Peaking at number 3 in the BBC Worldwide zzub chart. New artists
are emerging and label has received high praise from the likes of
Rob Da Bank (radio 1), Mr
Scruff, and Andy Weatherall.
Watch out for The Currymints, Bass Snatchers,
777 and Monochrome
