Tri-Tone Founder: Simon Duffy
Simon Duffy has been in the Music Business for over 20 years. After an early career as a Musician, Sound Engineer and Producer at the world famous Amazon Studio’s (now Parr Street Studio’s) in Liverpool he moved to MaDchester in the the late 80’s. There he began his Management career with Rob Gretton (Manager of Joy Division and New Order), who inspired him to go on to help set up the labels Twisted Nerve Records (Badly Drawn Boy/Andy Votel), Invicta Hi-Fi Records (Ladytron) and Deltasonic Records (The Coral).
After scoring major deals for those labels and an act called Simian (Mobile Disco/James Ford) Simon moved to London developing a career in A+R/Marketing working for Virgin/EMI Europe on international labels such as City Slang (Lamb Chop/ Calexico) and other artists such as Interpol. After this he worked with Ed Banger/Because (Justice/ Metronomy), Domino and B-Unique. He then moved into Music Publishing where he worked for Delabel/EMI Music continuing with The Coral and had Top 20 Hits with Justice vs Simian “We are your Friends” and Mish Mash (Ministry of Sound).
Finally he built his own company Tri-Tone which works in partnership with various companies including one of the largest worldwide independents “Play it Again Sam” (PIAS). Recently signed artists for publishing are Y.O.U (Previously Airship), Rose Elinor Dougall (who co-writes and performs with Mark Ronson), Raized by Wolves (including members of Doves), Editors (two new writing members), The Heartbreaks and a co-publishing venture with Sentric Music for artists Tall Ships and Cattle and Cane. He has also recently re-developed the Management side of the company signing new band VITAMIN to National Anthem/Sony and Downtown Music US with other acts in development.
Simon continues to consult in A+R/Marketing for other clients and has guest lectured at London City University, Middlesex University, SAE, LIPA, BANM/Access to Music, Manchester and Salford University Colleges in subjects that range from Jazz Composition to New Media Marketing and continues to be a panelist at many music industry conferences.
